Cranston High School West
Cranston High School West is one of two public high schools that serve the students of the city of Cranston, Rhode Island.
The City of Cranston and Cranston Public Schools partnered with Newport Renewables to obtain two key grants for the construction of a 50 kW DC solar array. The 180-panel roof-mounted array was built by Newport Renewables after a new roof was installed. The system was turned online in December 2016, and will continue to generate electricity for the next 25+ years. The solar array is expected to generate 64,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, providing 5% of the school’s annual electricity consumption. The system will offset the equivalent of 49.6 tons of carbon dioxide annually, and generate enough clean energy to power 4.7 homes each year.
