Sandywoods Zero Energy Homes

Sandywoods Zero Energy Homes

January 28, 2017

Two affordable zero energy homes designed by Newport Renewables in collaboration with Northeast Collaborative Architects. The developer partnered with Newport Renewables to design and build the solar photovoltaic systems for each home. The 9 kW solar PV arrays offset 100% of each home’s heating and electrical demand. The homes are located in the Sandywoods Artist Community in Tiverton, RI. The 33-panel arrays were both completed and turned online in January 2016. Each solar array is expected to generate 10,900 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, providing 100% of each homes annual electricity consumption.  Each system will offset the equivalent of 8.4 tons of carbon dioxide annually, and generate enough clean energy to power 1 home each year.
